New Play Happiness Ltd. By Tom Nicholas Premieres This October

Happiness Ltd, a brand-new play by South West writer Tom Nicholas will hold its world premiere at The Bike Shed Theatre on Tuesday 10th October.

The play follows video game developer Vi who, when she breaks up with her partner Becky, looks to apply the same concepts that keep gamers glued to their screens to bring a sense of achievement to her everyday life.

When she shares her idea with her rambunctious colleague Tyler, however, he sees an opportunity, not just to make money, but to fix the world’s mental health problems once and for all.

Happiness Ltd is a hilarious, urgent new play which asks prescient questions about happiness, depression and how we measure the success, or otherwise, of a life.

The production will be directed by Salisbury Playhouse Associate Director Jo Newman and brought to life by a thoroughly South West team of actors and creatives.

Tom said: “Writing Happiness Ltd has been a process of stitching together a bunch of ideas which have been playing on my mind for some time. Although on the surface it is a play about video games and technology—a world that it has been incredibly exciting to put on stage—at its heart it asks much deeper, age-old questions about our relationship with happiness, ambition and compromise”.

The show is a co-production between New Model Theatre and The Bike Shed Theatre, having been developed over the past two years with support from Theatre Royal Plymouth, Salisbury Playhouse and Arts Council England.

After debuting at The Bike Shed Theatre, the production will tour to Plymouth, Salisbury and London with plans to take the show further afield in 2018.

Happiness Ltd opens at The Bike Shed Theatre on Tuesday 10th October 2017 and runs until Saturday 21st October 2017. Tickets, and more information, can be found at
